The SR Education Group scholarship board has selected 13 recipients for this quarter’s higher-education scholarships. There were four categories to apply to: community college, military, undergraduate, and graduate. We were so inspired to hear each person’s story, and to glimpse how, even in strained circumstances, students are fighting to stay in their courses and reach their higher-education goals. Join us in recognizing the following winners:
- Community College Scholarship: Gracie Show of Blackfeet Community College, Braylee Day of Turtle Mountain Community College, Sabrina Sheffer of Hartnell College, Bryson Sedivy of Helena College University of Montana, Autumn Niebaum of Iowa Western Community College, and Mallory Ellis of East Arkansas Community College
- Undergraduate Scholarship: Hugo Palacios of the University of California – Riverside, Mary Smith of Pacific University, Nicholas Gaspar of Northern Arizona University, and Rhyan Darrisaw of Georgia State University
- Graduate Scholarship: Kayla McCrary of Middle Tennessee State University
- Military Scholarship: Mikayla Shave of Southern New Hampshire University Online and Joshua Henderson of the University of South Dakota
The scholarship winners come from various backgrounds and have dealt with their unique personal and family struggles. One of our undergraduate scholarship recipients, Hugo Palacios, has been dedicated to his education and sociology studies so he can counsel at-risk youth, encouraging them to pursue education. “I am honored to have been selected for this scholarship,” Hugo told our scholarship board. “This is a sign for me and my community that no matter how difficult our upbringing was, we can still succeed and stand out!”
It is so easy to have issue after issue, barrier after barrier, discourage you from pursuing what matters – but these individuals have persisted, and have asked for SR Education Group to come alongside them to support their endeavors. We are grateful to all who applied this quarter, and we are especially thankful for these final recipients, who will hopefully continue to inspire and move people around them to strive to attain their life goals.
We will be sharing more about these wonderful people in posts to come, so stay tuned to read pieces of their stories! In the meantime, if you or someone you know is interested in applying to one of our four scholarship categories, the next scholarship deadline is December 29th, and we encourage you to apply. Winners of our quarterly scholarships are chosen based on answers to two main questions: How do you plan to use your degree in the next five years? And are there any special familial or personal reasons contributing to your financial needs? Visit our scholarships page.
