Now that we have announced all of our second quarter scholarship winners, we are excited to share more information about each of the recipients, starting with the undergraduate and graduate students! These individuals all impressed us with their amazing perseverance and drive for success.
The July 2018 Undergraduate and Graduate Winners include: Jada Locklear, Jayme Henning, Katy Clevenger, Madeline Stano, and Kami Elorrieta. Read on to learn about how these students stood out from hundreds of applicants!
Jada Locklear is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Old Dominion University. She hopes to continue her education after receiving her bachelor's degree, and eventually become a nurse practitioner. In the future, Jada hopes to return to her hometown on the eastern shore of Virginia to encourage youth to pursue education through college workshops that include tips on financial aid, scholarships, career options, and more. Jada works multiple jobs to keep up with her education costs and has overcome many obstacles to get to where she is today.
Jayme Henning attends Central Michigan University where she is pursuing a bachelor’s in human resources degree. One of her biggest goals for the future is to make a positive, lasting impact on the company she is working for. She knows that her human resources degree will help her create an understanding, comfortable environment in her workspace and ensure she is providing employees with the best benefits. While Jayme has faced many tragedies in her family life, she constantly perseveres to continue with her education.
Katy Clevenger is a student at Baylor University majoring in biology and hoping to attend medical school. Since she was a child, Katy has dreamed of becoming a doctor. She is passionate about doing her best for those around her and is excited to have a career that challenges her everyday. After working to pay her way through her first year of college, Katy was grateful for the scholarship. “The extra money will allow me to work less during the school year and devote more time and energy to my studies.”
Madeline Stano is pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Southern New Hampshire University Online. She has always been fascinated with law, the court system, government, civil rights, and mostly, the criminal and corrections procedures. She hopes to pursue her passions in the courtroom, a legal firm, or the correctional field. Madeline, a mother of three, shared that the scholarship, “Will help to provide a better future for both me and my children.”
Kami Elorrieta is attending Adams State University for her masters in counseling with a dual specialty in school counseling and clinical mental health. Kami knows this degree will give her the opportunity to help children cope with and overcome their traumas. Following her passion to serve others, Kami entered a rewarding long-term volunteer experience after earning her bachelor’s degree. After overcoming many hardships, Kami is excited to be able to further her education without the financial burden.
We are amazed by the dedication and perseverance of these students and are so proud of each of them. We are thankful that we are able to play a small part in helping them reach their education and career goals. The next round of scholarship applications are currently open and being accepted until September 29.
